inner west bus way along victoria road

Introduction

There are 200,000 bus commuters each week on Victoria Road. This project will improve the travel times and reliability of bus services - especially in the busy morning peak period.

A busway will be built on Victoria Road between Westbourne Street in Drummoyne and The Crescent in Rozelle. This dedicated bus lane in peak periods through Drummoyne and Rozelle will result in:

  • Faster and more reliable bus travel.
  • Greater road safety.
  • Improved facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

The New South Wales Government will spend $175 million on the busway including a new bridge over Iron Cove and improved cyclist and pedestrian facilities throughout Rozelle and Drummoyne.

Target date for substantial completion is December 2010, weather permitting.

For more information go to Animations and Videos page.

Park Avenue, Drummoyne - Permanent traffic changes to commence 18 February 2010

There will be a permanent change at the intersection of Victoria Road and Park Avenue as part of the Inner West Busway.

From Thursday 18 February 2010 westbound motorists turning left into Park Avenue will have to do so via the traffic signals. The change is to allow for the provision of a crossing at Park Avenue to improve cyclist and pedestrian safety.

Work at the intersection of Victoria Road and Lyons Road involves the permanent removal of the slip lane from Lyons Road onto Victoria Road (westbound) and will be implemented Wednesday, 3 February.

Motorists will still be able to turn left but they will have to do so at the traffic signals instead of the slip lane. This will also eliminate the conflict between buses, cars and pedestrians around the busy bus stop, improving safety for pedestrians.
