Cyclist and pedestrian facility improvements
Improvements to cyclist and pedestrian facilities in Drummoyne and Rozelle were identified as important issues in community discussion for the Inner West Busway project. The RTA developed a proposal to improve cyclist and pedestrian facilities in consultation with Leichhardt and Canada Bay councils, Bicycles NSW, local bicycle user groups and the wider community.

Over 40 submissions from the community and other agencies were received and considered. A report addressing the matters raised in the submissions was prepared before the project was approved.

Construction of the $5million cyclist and pedestrian facility improvements started in April 2010 as part of the Inner West Busway project. The project is fully funded by the NSW Government.

These improvements will deliver:

  • A wider shared-use cyclist and pedestrian ramp, linking the new bridge to the Bay Run.
  • Clearly marked alternate cycle routes. Designated cyclist pathways.
  • Improved access to the Bay Run.
  • Improved safety for cyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
  • Improved signage for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
Improvements completed in Drummoyne include:
  • A wider shared-use cyclist and pedestrian Cyclist route improvements along Renwick Street. Work involved the installation of new signs and pavement markings.
  • Kerb adjustments at the intersection of Wrights Road and Seymour Street.
  • New cyclist paths at the intersection of Lyons Road and Wrights Road.

Construction of a new pedestrian and cyclist shared use ramp at Henley Marine Drive connecting the Bay Run to the new bridge over Iron Cove has started and is programmed to be complete in January 2011.

For more information about these improvements call the community relations team on 1300 780 841 or email victoriaroad@btba.com.au.
