Background

Victoria Road is one of Sydney’s busiest roads, connecting the Parramatta and Sydney central business districts. Around 200,000 bus passengers travel on Victoria Road each week. Up to 170 buses, with more than 8,000 passengers travel between Gladesville Bridge and The Crescent during typical morning peak traffic periods.

Traffic congestion and illegal use of the T3 lane slows down citybound buses travelling through Drummoyne and Rozelle in the AM peak.

Buses can take up to 28 minutes to travel through Drummoyne and Rozelle.

The Inner West Busway will produce bus travel time savings of up to 18 minutes in the busiest part of the morning peak period when the majority of patrons are using them.

New bus lanes

Dedicated bus lanes in peak periods will give priority to buses and improve the travel times and reliability of services along through Drummoyne and Rozelle.

AM Peak
  • Citybound from Seymour Street, Drummoyne to The Crescent, Rozelle.
  • Westbound from Clubb Street, Rozelle to the end of the new bridge.
PM Peak
  • Citybound from Seymour Street, Drummoyne to Terry Street, Rozelle.
24 Hour
  • Citybound over Iron Cove Bridge from Park Avenue, Drummoyne to Terry Street, Rozelle.
Benefits of the project

The Inner West Busway along Victoria Road will:

o    Improve efficiency and reliability of bus services on Victoria Road through Drummoyne and Rozelle during weekday peak periods.

o    Maintain peak direction traffic flow during peak periods.

o    Improve safety for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

Main features of the project include:

o    New clearways though Drummoyne during peak periods.

o    Restriction of access to Victoria Road from Cary Street in the morning peak.

o    A new bus bay at Cary Street.

o    A new bridge over Iron Cove.

o    Changes to traffic and access arrangements in Rozelle.

o    Improvements to cyclist and pedestrian facilities.

Who is delivering the project?
